UNICEF and Amway – together we can do more

Amway affiliates in Europe have been supporting UNICEF, the United Nation's Children's fund since 2001. Together with its ABOs and employees Amway helps to immunise children in developing countries against dangerous diseases. Within the first three years of this partnership, Amway contributed already 1.3 Million Euro. Amway supports UNICEF’s relief efforts for the victims of the tsunami disaster.

Since the immediate hours after the news of the devastating Tsunami disaster reached Europe, Amway, its ABOs and employees started to actively support the efforts to reduce the suffering of survivors. More than 320.000 Euro were generated through numerous activities such as auctions or raffles in Europe.

UNICEF ambassador Sir Roger Moore thanks Amway for their support of UNICEF’s relief efforts: "Your heartfelt solidarity with the millions of children whose lives were so devastated by the Asian tsunami is indeed inspiring".

The highlights of Amway’s partnership from February 2005:

"We want to give all the children in the world an equal chance of having a better life," says Mark Beiderwieden, ""we share this goal with UNICEF, and this is why we have decided in favour of a long-term partnership."

The pin launched on the 1st of November and has proven to be a fantastic success so far.

 $1 Million cheque to UNICEF

Leadership Seminar in Orlando – Mark Beiderwieden, Sr. Vice President and Managing Director Amway Europe presents a $1 Million cheque to UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Hollywood Actor Danny Glover.

“One can write down a lot of philosophies but the overwhelming preparedness of Amway to help the victims of the Tsunami disaster in South East Asia earlier is no better proof of your engagement to save the lives of those children in need, well beyond your call of duty. This makes you outstanding and very special…

In the spirit of this Leadership conference, UNICEF is also a Leader – a leader for children and their right to a safe and healthy childhood. UNICEF cherishes the new tradition that has begun – that Amway and UNICEF will continue being leaders for children around the world.

On behalf of the United Nations Children’s Fund and all children, I would like to thank Amway Europe for their support.”

Working together for the Tsunami victims

After the horrible Tsunami disaster at Christmas 2004 Amway, its ABOs and employees raised an incredible amount of more than £221,000 / €322,000 to support the UNICEF relief efforts.

This engagement was recognized by Sir Roger Moore who said: “Your heartfelt solidarity with the millions of children whose lives were so devastated by the Asian Tsunami is indeed inspiring. And it will become even more important in the weeks and months ahead when UNICEF, working with governments, local communities and families, embarks on the long and difficult process of reconstruction and recovery.”

Former UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy also expressed her gratitude: “With your generous contributions, Amway is helping UNICEF go the distance for children affected by the Tsunami. Your donations are enabling us to provide immediate life-saving assistance as well as tackle the longer-term challenges that make life so difficult for so many children in these countries. We applaud Amway for making this significant commitment.”
